Who is Mari Harries?
As a lifelong resident, I’m proud to call Windom, MN, home.
Born and raised here, I graduated from Windom Area Schools in 2001,
left for a few years to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in English
from University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and Winona State University.
After a few years of working as a traveling caterer for PGA Golf Tournaments, as well as working for Windom Area Schools, I went on to become
the owner of River City Eatery, a mainstreet cafe
in the heart of Windom's downtown district for 11 years.
Currently a High School English Teacher at Windom Area Schools
and owner of M. Harries Creative Agency which helps small businesses
thrive in our ever changing world, I'm also dedicated
to serving my community and leaving it better than I found it as my husband and I are raising our teenage son in this city as well.
My deep roots in this community have shaped who I am, and I’m committed to using my passion and skills to build a bright future for Windom.
With your support, I will bring a fresh perspective to the challenges we face while honoring the traditions that make our town unique.

Why I'm running for Windom City Council.
Focus on Quality of Life
Commitment to improving the overall quality of life in the town, including health, safety, and recreational opportunities. Quality of life not only enhances our lives as community members, but enhances the opportunity to use tourism as an asset for the community.

Commitment to Transparency
I prioritize open communication, accessible decision-making processes, and regular updates to the public, along with fiscal responsibility. It's important the public is informed about local government, and we should be using modern ways of communicating important information to the community of Windom. I commit to overseeing the town’s budget wisely, avoiding wasteful spending, and ensuring that taxpayer money is used effectively.

Strong Community Ties
I have deep roots in the community, understand local traditions, and have a personal stake in the town’s future. I have demonstrated commitment to serving the community, whether through volunteer work, previous public service, or community involvement, as well as being a local small business owner over the last 12 years in beautiful downtown Windom.

Strong Advocate for Local Businesses
I support small businesses, understand their challenges, and will work to create a thriving local economy that moves us forward as a community, provides essentials and neccessities, as well as makes room for small businesses that make us unique and desirable to a targeted demographic and opportunities for tourism spending.

With an appreciation for the town’s history and cultural heritage, I'm also open to new ideas and improvements, I advocate for strong local schools, educational opportunities, and programs for youth development.
I have an ability to think critically, address local issues effectively, and propose practical solutions that benefit the community with a clear and realistic vision for the town’s growth and development, balancing tradition with progress.
